The demon was the easy part. The horse took the rest of the week.
He draws his sword in the air, drives off what comes at him in the water, and swims with one hand and one foot while fighting with the other — and then the Shahnameh makes him walk. Rakhsh is gone. He carries the saddle on foot until he finds the horse running loose among Afrasiab's mares, takes it back, drives off the whole herd, and beats Afrasiab himself off the field. Only then does Akvan meet him again, and taunt him for coming back. Rostam lassos him at the waist, breaks his skull with the mace, and takes the head off with a dagger. Ferdowsi ends by saying a div is any man without gratitude.
