Faramarz · Chapter 4 of 5

Head Downward

A warning remembered · A wind on the fourth day · A mirrored death

The poem does not point it out. It just does it to him twice.

The boy Rostam raised comes back as king to collect. He invades Sistan and puts the aged Zal in chains, and the Shahnameh has Faramarz, away at the frontier, remember his uncle's warning word for word and reproach his father's memory for not having listened. The battle runs three days and nights; on the fourth a wind turns against him and his army breaks and leaves him. He fights on with his whole body full of sword-cuts, is taken alive, and is refused quarter. He is hanged living, head downward, and then killed with a rain of arrows — which is precisely what he had done to the king of Kabol. Ferdowsi does not comment.

Unlocks in-game at Ascension tier 2.
