The Devourer

They drove a sword between his jaws and left him on an island, and the myths have a river running from his mouth for as long as the world lasts. Then, at Ragnarök, the ribbon gives. Fenrir comes through the world with his lower jaw on the ground and his upper jaw against the sky, and swallows Odin — the act he was born for, the act the Æsir rearranged the world to prevent, arriving exactly on schedule. Odin's son Víðarr tears the wolf apart afterward. The prophecy was never avoidable; every step taken to stop it turns out to be a step inside it.
