Izanagi · Chapter 5 of 6

The Washing at Awakihara

A river mouth · Three children · A world divided

The sun came out of an eye that had seen too much.

The tradition ends his active part with a bath. Polluted by Yomi, Izanagi goes to a river mouth in Tsukushi and washes, and the account turns each discarded garment and each rinse into a deity. Then come the three the chronicles care about: Amaterasu from his left eye, Tsukuyomi from his right, and Susanoo from his nose. He divides the world between them — the plain of heaven, the night, the sea — and the Kojiki has him withdraw from the story afterwards. What follows in Japanese myth descends from a man cleaning himself after a journey he should not have made.

Unlocks in-game at Ascension tier 2.
