Odin · Chapter 6 of 8

The Last Muster

Ragnarök · Foreknowledge · An end accepted

He learned exactly how it ends, and then went and did it.

The shape of the whole Norse tradition points at this, and Völuspá states it without softening: the wolf gets loose, and Odin goes to meet it, and is swallowed. Everything before it — the eye, the tree, the drafted dead, the questions put to giants and to corpses — was preparation for a morning already described to him in full. His son Víðarr steps in afterwards and tears the wolf apart, which changes nothing about the outcome and is clearly not meant to. The knowledge was never a way out. It was only ever a way of knowing.

Unlocks in-game at Ascension tier 2.
