Helmet and Braid — illustration for the Gordafarid chapter of the Ages of Myth Codex

Gordafarid · Chapter 2 of 5

Helmet and Braid

Hair under the mail · A bow no bird passes · A saddle lost

She cut his spear in half on the way out of her own saddle.

She puts on a horseman's mail, hides her hair under it, knots a helmet over that, and comes down from the fortress calling for their heroes. Sohrab bites his lip and laughs. What the Shahnameh gives her first is the bow: it says no bird could pass her arrows, and she rains them wheeling left and right until he is ashamed to be under them. Then the lances. He strikes her belt, tears the mail open link by link, and lifts her out of the saddle like a ball struck by a polo mallet — and she draws a blade while she is going and cuts his spear in two, and gets back onto her seat.

Unlocks in-game at Mastery 3.
