He Hands It Over — illustration for the Kaveh chapter of the Ages of Myth Codex

Kaveh · Chapter 4 of 5

He Hands It Over

An omen received · Brocade over leather · A man who stops

They jewelled his apron until you could not see the leather.

In the Shahnameh he brings his following to Fereydun, who reads the apron on the spear as an omen and does what kings do. Brocade of Rum on a jewelled ground of gold, a full moon at the spear-point, streamers of yellow and red and violet, and a name — the Kavian flag. Every shah after him adds more jewels until, the Shahnameh says, it grew to be a sun in the gloom of night. And that is where Kaveh stops. He is named once more at the court and then has nothing further to do; the family goes on through his son, who becomes a general. He gave the revolt its object and did not ask for anything.

Unlocks in-game at Ascension tier 2.
