Khonsu · Chapter 3 of 5

The Healing at Bakhtan

A possessed princess · A travelling statue · A text set in the past

The god went abroad on tour, and the host would not return him.

A stela in the Louvre tells a story that does not behave like other Egyptian sources. A princess of a far country called Bakhtan is possessed; an image of Khonsu is sent to her, the spirit is dismissed politely and even given a feast, and the prince of Bakhtan tries to keep the statue until a dream frightens him into sending it home. The text presents itself as an event of the reign of Ramesses II. Egyptologists date the stone itself many centuries later, which makes it a story set in a famous past and written for a temple that benefited from telling it.

Unlocks in-game at Ascension tier 1.
