Khonsu · Chapter 5 of 5

Reckoners of the Same Nights

Two lunar gods · Overlapping epithets · No resolution wanted

One god walked the moon across. Another wrote down how long it took.

Two figures in the Egyptian sources count the same thing. Khonsu is the moon that crosses; Thoth is the moon that records, the scribe who reckons time and keeps the accounts of the gods. Egypt did not resolve this — both stay lunar, both appear with the crescent and disc, and in some texts their epithets overlap. It is a normal feature of that religion rather than a contradiction wanting a fix: functions attach to more than one figure, and local priesthoods had their own reasons for it. The moon mattered enough to belong to two gods at once.

Unlocks in-game at Ascension tier 4.
