The Pit — illustration for the Rakhsh chapter of the Ages of Myth Codex

Rakhsh · Chapter 4 of 5

The Pit

Covered pits · A horse that baulked · A rider who insisted

He refused the ground. It was the one time nobody listened.

The poem ends the two of them together. Rostam's half-brother Shaghad conspires with the king of Kabol; pits are dug across a hunting ground, filled with spears and blades, and covered over. The account says Rakhsh baulks — he will not go forward — and Rostam, impatient, urges him on. Both of them fall. Ferdowsi gives the horse no separate death scene and the poem does not need one. The last thing Rakhsh does in it is refuse the ground, and the last thing his rider does is overrule him about it.

Unlocks in-game at Ascension tier 2.
