Simurgh · Chapter 4 of 6

The Tamarisk, and the Price

A wounded champion · Submission counselled first · A price named

She told him to kneel before she told him where to aim.

The poem's last use of the feather is its darkest. Rostam has fought Esfandiyar, whom the epic treats as proof against weapons, and comes home wounded and considering flight; it is Zal who burns the feather. The Simurgh heals man and horse — and then, before she offers any weapon, tells him to submit: there is no disgrace, she says, in stooping to a prince who carries the Grace of God. Only if that is refused will she help. She leads him by a dry road to a tamarisk on the shore, names the branch to cut, tells him to level both hands at the eye — and names what follows for whoever kills him.

Unlocks in-game at Ascension tier 2.
