The White Castle — illustration for the Sohrab chapter of the Ages of Myth Codex

Sohrab · Chapter 3 of 7

The White Castle

A spear-butt · Quarter granted · An empty fortress at dawn

He won the castle overnight and woke up holding nothing.

The Shahnameh puts him first against Iran's border fortress. Hojir rides out alone; Sohrab drives the spear-butt into his waist and throws him like a boulder, and when Hojir asks for quarter on the ground he gives it. Then Gordafarid comes out in armour with her hair hidden, and that fight has its own chapter and its own ending. By nightfall he has beaten everyone the castle can send and taken nothing. The garrison leaves through a passage under the walls while he waits for morning. He forces the gates at dawn onto an empty fortress, and the poem says he looked for her and did not find her.

Unlocks in-game at Mastery 3.
