Susano-o · Chapter 3 of 6

The Eight-Forked Serpent

Izumo · Orochi · A trap made of sake

He did not fight it. He waited for it to drink.

Japanese mythology describes Susanoo coming down at the head of the Hi river in Izumo and finding an old couple weeping over their eighth daughter. A serpent with eight heads has taken the other seven and is due again. He asks for the girl's hand, has eight vats of strong sake set behind eight gates, and waits while the creature drinks itself insensible. Then he cuts it apart. In the fourth tail he finds a sword, which he does not keep for himself.

Unlocks in-game at Ascension tier 1.
