Susano-o · Chapter 6 of 6

The Lord of the Root Land

Ne-no-kuni · Trials · A blessing shouted

He tested the boy nearly to death, then told him to rule well.

Japanese mythology gives Susanoo a later career underground, ruling Ne-no-kuni, the root land, and the Kojiki brings the young Ōkuninushi to him there as a fugitive. Susanoo shuts him in a room of snakes, then wasps, then sets a moor alight around him, and the daughter he is courting quietly helps him survive each one. When the pair steal his treasures and run, Susanoo — pinned by his own hair, tied to the rafters — shouts after them not a curse but instructions: use the sword, build a palace, rule well.

Unlocks in-game at Ascension tier 5.
