Ragnarök

Ragnarök, as the sources give it, is not a punishment. It is the last item on a list everyone has already read, and the Æsir walk into it regardless — which is much of the argument of Norse myth. Heimdall's horn. The wolf loose. The serpent rising out of a sea it no longer fits. Thor kills Jörmungandr, exactly as promised, and dies of its poison nine paces later; Odin is swallowed whole. The world burns and sinks, and then returns green, and two people walk out of a wood. Nobody wins. Everybody keeps their word.
