Thor · Chapter 7 of 7

The Hall of Útgarða-Loki

Illusion · Limits · A contest rigged

He lost every contest. What he lost to was the point.

In one of the Prose Edda's strangest passages Thor is a guest of a giant king who sets him contests, and he loses all of them. He cannot drain a drinking horn. He cannot lift a large grey cat off the floor. He is wrestled to one knee by an old woman. Only on the road home is he told what he had actually been holding: the horn ran down to the sea, the cat was the world serpent, and the old woman was old age, whom nobody has ever thrown. Thor turns to swing — and the hall, and the king, are no longer there.

Unlocks in-game at Ascension tier 5.
