The Tamarisk — illustration for the Zal chapter of the Ages of Myth Codex

Zal · Chapter 6 of 7

The Tamarisk

Esfandiyar · An unguarded place · A warning delivered

She told them how to win. She also told them what it would cost.

Persian tradition brings Rostam up against Esfandiyar, a prince made proof against weapons, and the Shahnameh has him lose. Wounded and out of ideas, he goes to his father, and Zal burns the feather a last time. The Simurgh heals both man and horse, and then names the one unguarded place — the eyes — and the one thing that will reach it: an arrow cut from a tamarisk by the water. She adds the rest of it plainly. Whoever kills Esfandiyar is finished, whatever he does afterwards. Rostam makes the arrow anyway.

Unlocks in-game at Ascension tier 4.
