The Weaving Hall — illustration for the Amaterasu chapter of the Ages of Myth Codex

Amaterasu · Chapter 2 of 6

The Weaving Hall

Order · Cultivation · The work of a sun

The sun's job, in this telling, is mostly administration.

Japanese mythology does not describe Amaterasu as a distant light. The Kojiki puts her in a working landscape: rice paddies laid out in heaven, irrigation kept up, a sacred hall where garments are woven. She rules by keeping things in order, and her authority is bound up with cultivation and craft rather than with force. That matters for what follows — when her brother arrives to wreck things, the damage is not cosmic. It is farmland, ditches and a loom, which is to say everything she actually does.

Unlocks in-game at Mastery 2.
