Amaterasu · Chapter 5 of 6

The Laughter Outside

Uzume · The mirror · Curiosity as a lever

Nothing opened that door. Something made her want to look.

The Kojiki describes a solution that is not force. The kami hang a mirror and jewels on a tree, and Ame-no-Uzume dances on an overturned tub until she is beside herself and the assembly roars. Amaterasu, hearing celebration in a world she has darkened, asks what could possibly be funny — and is told there is a greater kami outside. She opens the door enough to look, sees her own face in the mirror, and is drawn out. A rope is tied behind her, and the light comes back.

Unlocks in-game at Ascension tier 2.
