Horus · Chapter 6 of 8

The Living Horus

A living king · A dead father · A falcon at the neck

Every king in Egypt was the last chapter of this story.

The tradition ends where Egyptian kingship begins. A living king is described as Horus and a dead king as Osiris: the son succeeds the father, and the succession is not a metaphor added by later theologians but the oldest layer of the royal titulary. The Horus name is the first name a king takes, written inside the palace frame with the falcon standing above it. The seated Khafre in Cairo has a falcon behind his head, wings folded around it. Whatever else this myth was, it was also a constitutional argument made in stone, and it held for three thousand years.

Unlocks in-game at Ascension tier 2.
