The Last Temple

A cult exported · Philae · A last inscription

The language died in the temple that had kept it longest.

The tradition outlasts its own country, which is a rare ending for any of them. Worship of Isis spread through the Hellenistic and Roman worlds — temples on Delos, at Pompeii, in Rome itself, with a following that had no connection to Egypt — while at Philae, far to the south, the Egyptian cult simply kept going after the rest had stopped. The last dated hieroglyphic inscription in Egypt was cut at Philae in 394 CE, and the temple was closed by imperial order in the sixth century.

Unlocks in-game at Ascension tier 2.
