Mimir · Chapter 3 of 4

The Head That Spoke

A hostage exchange · A head returned · Still consulted

They kept the part of him that talked and posted the rest home.

A different tradition kills him and keeps him useful. In Ynglinga saga the Aesir and Vanir end their war by exchanging hostages; Mimir goes to the Vanir alongside Hoenir, who turns out to be helpless without him, and the Vanir cut off Mimir's head and send it back. Odin treats it with herbs and spoken charms so that it will not rot, and it goes on telling him things. Voluspa has him consulting that head once more as the last war opens, which is where the sources leave him.

Unlocks in-game at Ascension tier 2.
