Lord of the Duat — illustration for the Osiris chapter of the Ages of Myth Codex

Osiris · Chapter 4 of 7

Lord of the Duat

The underworld · Judgement · A second throne

Not a resurrection. A relocation, and a promotion.

Egyptian tradition does not return Osiris to the living world. It gives him the Duat instead, and the sources describe him enthroned there, green-skinned and wrapped, presiding over the hall where hearts are weighed. This is the shape Egyptian religion settled on: death is not reversed, it is governed. The judgement scene is his court, Anubis works the scales inside it, and the verdict is delivered in his presence. Of everything Egypt held about the dead, the part that travelled furthest may simply be that somebody was in charge of them.

Unlocks in-game at Ascension tier 1.
