Rostam · Chapter 3 of 8

The Seven Trials

Seven stages · A horse that warns · A cave at the end

Six of them were survived. One of them was fought.

The Haft Khan is the poem's great set piece, and its structure is patterned: seven stages, and Rostam does not get through all of them by himself. Rakhsh kills a lion while his rider sleeps. A waterless desert nearly finishes both until a ram leads them to a spring. A dragon rises three times before Rostam will accept that the horse is trying to warn him. A sorceress is unmasked over wine, a captor is bound, a fortress falls — and at the end, in the dark of a cave, the White Div is killed and a blinded king's sight is restored.

Unlocks in-game at Mastery 3.
