The Standard at the Front

Before the king · Abydos · A role without a story

No myth of his own. Only the front of everyone else's.

The sources put him in front of kings. The shedshed standard carrying his image goes ahead of the king in procession and in war, and the texts use the opening of ways in the practical and the ritual sense at once: a route cleared, a door opened, a line broken. At Abydos his standard led the yearly procession that carried Osiris out of the temple and brought him back. It is a role the record documents heavily and narrates hardly at all — a figure known by where he stands rather than by what he did.

Unlocks in-game at Mastery 3.
