Lycopolis — illustration for the Wepwawet chapter of the Ages of Myth Codex

Wepwawet · Chapter 3 of 4

Lycopolis

Zawty, Lykopolis, Asyut · A local cult · Canid cemeteries

Kept by one town, and sent ahead of everybody.

His city is where the tradition gets concrete. Egyptian Zawty, Greek Lykopolis, modern Asyut: a place far enough up the Nile to have its own politics, whose governors put his name through their tomb inscriptions, and whose cemeteries have produced enormous quantities of mummified canids. Whatever the rest of Egypt made of him, the people of one town kept him as theirs — which is how most Egyptian worship actually worked. Local first, and national only sometimes, and usually because a local family reached the throne.

Unlocks in-game at Ascension tier 2.
