Aztec cards in Ages of Myth

Tonatiuh, Xiuhtecuhtli, Nanahuatzin and Quetzalcóatl — the Fifth Sun, and a cosmos that runs on motion and debt.

About the Aztec set

Mexica cosmology is built on an uncomfortable and entirely coherent idea: the sun moves because something was given up to start it moving. Nanahuatzin, the scabbed and least impressive of the gods, throws himself into the fire first and becomes Tonatiuh, the Fifth Sun. Xiuhtecuhtli holds the hearth and the turning of the years; Xólotl leads the dead and the setting sun down; Quetzalcóatl is the feathered serpent of wind, learning and the morning star. The set is drawn from the Florentine Codex and the surviving pictorial manuscripts, and it deliberately does not flatten sacrifice into shock — in the sources it is the price of a working world, not a spectacle.
