Norse cards in Ages of Myth

Odin, Thor, Hel and Níðhöggr — the Eddas, the sagas, and a world with an ending already written.

About the Norse set

The Norse set is shaped by the thing that makes the tradition unusual: everyone in it knows how it ends. Odin trades an eye and hangs nine nights for knowledge he cannot use to escape Ragnarök; Tyr puts his hand in the wolf's jaw knowing he will lose it. Around them are the figures the sources actually dwell on — Thor, whose hammer amulets turn up in ordinary farm graves across Scandinavia; Hel, who rules the dead without being their enemy; the valkyrie who chooses the slain; Níðhöggr gnawing at the root of the world-tree. Sources are the Poetic and Prose Eddas, the sagas, and the archaeology that keeps correcting both.
