Japanese cards in Ages of Myth
Amaterasu, Ryūjin, Inari and Enma — kami of the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, the yōkai, and the Buddhist judge of the dead.
About the Japanese set
Two layers, deliberately kept distinct. The older is the kami of the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki: Amaterasu the sun, who shuts herself in a cave and has to be coaxed out; her brother Susanoo, exiled for it, who then kills the eight-headed serpent; Izanagi, who goes to the land of the dead for his wife and breaks the one condition. The second layer is what arrived with Buddhism and what grew in the villages — Enma, who judges the dead; Inari of the rice and the fox; the tengu of the mountain; and the yōkai, which are less gods than the tradition's way of saying that the world is populated.
